Why You Should Road Trip Instead of Flying

Road trips over flying the plane.

While flying in an airplane to get to a destination can save you on time, taking a road trip is a viable option for those who have a bit of extra time to spend. Better yet, the road will provide you with certain advantages that a flight will never give you. Here are some reasons why you should road trip instead of flying.

Skip The Airport Process - All in all, the process of getting a flight can be a terrible experience. First of all, you have to pay a load of money way in advance for a ticket. But what if you want to simply go on a spur of the moment adventure this weekend? Then you’re going to have to pay even more just to go. A road trip doesn’t require all that planning and you can live as spontaneously as you’d like. Furthermore, going through security and checking your bags is a stressful pain at the best of times, especially if they get lost. But when you hop in your car and go, you don’t have to worry about any of that. Save yourself money and headaches, with road trips instead of airplanes. And if you are in any doubt that airports are stressful, a 2011 report called them ‘more stressful than moving house’.

No Car Rental Needed - If you still think that taking a plane isn’t as expensive as road tripping, think about the added expense of renting a car once you get to your destination. If you go on a road trip, you’ll already have your car with you and you won’t need to go through the rental car process. And best yet, it’ll be your car so you can have the comfort of driving your own vehicle, rather than something you’re unfamiliar with. If you decide to go on a long haul trip and rent out something bigger, make sure it is adequately covered for theft and damage. Head over to The Caravan Club for a quote.

You’re In Charge - When you set out on a road trip, there is no time that says you have to leave or come back by. There are no set stops or itinerary. And there is no food that you are required to eat. Instead, you’re the boss and you get to do it all on your own. You get to choose when you get in your car, how fast you get to your destination, where you stop to get food, if you want to stop and look at attractions and anything else that comes your way.

See The World - If you think that just travelling to somewhere new on a plane is considered “seeing the world”, you are only part right. Instead, it’s also the journey that it takes getting to that location that is considered part of seeing the world. There are stretches of road filled with beautiful scenery and other hidden treasures that only those who drive get to see.

More Memories - Whether you are driving alone, with a friend or with family, you’ll get to make loads more memories when you road trip instead of fly. At each stop that you make to take a picture of something unique, in each new story that you tell during a traffic jam, and with each hour that passes that you are in a car with someone, you’ll get to know them much better than if it was on a plane. And if you’re driving alone, you can find plenty of alone time that will help you learn things about yourself that you previously may not have known. A road trip will create memories that you’ll never forget.
