Simple Tips For Solo Travel

There are many benefits to traveling alone. You can learn a lot about yourself and get some great experiences and memories. According to Travel and Leisure, the change of environment can help to clear your head and may be the perfect “dose of momentum” needed to help you deal with any challenges or changes in your life.

Traveling provides the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, often with different backgrounds, yet similar struggles, providing a unique perspective on what is truly important. Once you’ve decided to make travel a priority, how can you make it a reality?

Use Mint.com to Help You Save Money for Your Adventure

Mint.com offers a great tool to help travelers set a financial goal for their trip and then save for it. It can help you estimate how much the trip will cost, and even encourage you to stick to your savings program. Using sites such as Kayak.com or Travelocity.com can help you to estimate the costs of airfare and accommodations. Once you’ve entered this information in, you can specify an amount to contribute to your travel goal each month. If you aren’t saving enough, the online tool will let you know and allow you to adjust as necessary.

Inn Touch App to Locate a B and B

Bed and Breakfasts aren’t just for couples. Not only are they often less expensive than a standard hotel, but you’ll also get a much more personalized experience that can help you feel more comfortable when traveling alone. Your host may be able to recommend appropriate activities for single travelers or even introduce you to other single travelers to join up with for a day of sight-seeing.

The Inn Touch app from iLoveInns.com features thousands of bed and breakfasts to choose from so that you can easily find one in your desired location. It also includes reviews as well as access to the B and B where you can make a reservation.

XE Currency App

The XE Currency app will let you know exactly how much you’re spending in any country and even help you to keep your budget on track, according to XE.com. It also helps with trip planning as it can monitor different currencies simultaneously, and rate its highs and lows by providing historic rates.

Protect Your Information

Traveling is exciting, but don't forget about the risks. A stolen bag, wallet or passport could easily ruin your trip. An identity protection service like Lifelock can give you peace of mind while you travel and quickly come to the rescue if any of your personal information is stolen.

Couch Surfing

If you don’t think you can afford to travel, joining CouchSurfing.org might be the answer. You’ll find hundreds of hosts around the world offering their couch, or in many cases, a private room, just for the chance at a rewarding cultural exchange. This provides a great opportunity to get to know the locals as well as to make travel much more affordable.

  1. Wow, thank you so much for these! Especially for Mint.com -- it's the first time I've heard of it. Have you tried coach surfing yourself? I do want to try it out next time but I'm a little bit hesitant crashing some stranger's house just because I'm a girl. Super hassle! :(

    1. I haven't tried couchsurfing but I have a lot of girl friends who tried it and it's perfectly safe.
