Photo Diary: Singapore in 50mm

Singapore is a country where citizens religiously follow all rules and regulations, and the mass transportation system is highly efficient and effective. It is considered as one of the most expensive countries to live (or even to visit), but The Little Red Dot will always be my first world refuge.

It's my second time in the Little Red Dot and this time, I was the navigator.

The first time I went here, I was clueless about the Singaporean way of life. All I did was to follow my friends who had already been here. I never had the chance to study their MRT lines, places to visit, and the recommended Singaporean treats to devour.

We originally planned to just tour KL and its neighboring states but one of my travel buddies wanted to have a quick hop at Singapore. Since round trip airfare from KL to Singapore was cheap, we eventually squeezed the Little Red Dot in our itinerary.

Navigating around Singapore was easier than I thought. Not to mention that everything's accessible. All you have to do is to ride their highly efficient trains and bus systems. We stayed at A Beary Best Hostel at Upper Cross Street, just in front of the Chinatown MRT Blue Line Station.

We only had less than a day to tour around Singapore. Here are some of the 'touristy places' that first timers shouldn't afford to miss:

  • Maxwell Road Hawker Centre - Eat like a Singaporean! I highly recommend Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. Even Anthony Bourdain loves it.
  • Sentosa Island - This is where you'll find the Resorts World, Universal Studios, Merlion, Palawan and Siloso Beaches, Luge Ride, and a whole lot more. Basically, there are so many activities that you can do in Sentosa Island that a whole day can't suffice.
  • Marina Bay Sands, and Gardens by the Bay - The best time to visit these two is during dusk, just in time when the Supertrees come alive with a light and music show called the OCBC Garden Rhapsody. Looking for a place to eat nearby? There's a food court at the basement level of Marina Bay Sands. They offer a huge array of food choices.
  • Chinatown - Looking for some cheap pasalubongs for your loved ones? Chinatown is the place to be. They sell cheap (and yummy) milk chocolates, keychains, ref magnets, souvenir shirts, and a whole lot more. Be sure you know how to haggle in order to get the best deals.

All photos were taken using my Canon EOS 1100D, 50mm f/1.8. Enjoy!

  1. I'm in Singapore about once or twice a year and yet I never run out of places to visit in the red dot. I love the view from Marina Bay at night. It's also easy to navigate around Singapore. You were able to capture the different attraction in full vivid colors.
