Walking, it's more fun in Outland Adventure! |
And once again, I'm back! It really feels great when your at your comfort zone. The past few weeks had been tough; it was truly challenging... well, mentally so to speak. My brain needs a rest because it's been in 'turbo' mode since Papa Jisas knows when. Haha! For the past few months, I was really craving for a real adventure. By intense, I mean bungee jumping, ziplining with a speed close to the speed of light (whoa), swimming and all those things that you've seen in Amazing Race, NatGeo Adventures, and other adventure-related shows.
Say hello to my team mates! |
I wasn't really expecting that I'd be having the adventure of my life yesterday. Weeks prior my long weekend vacation here in Davao, my college friend contacted me thru Facebook and asked if I'm free on May 11. Apparently, my college friends were planning a 'team building' activity at Outland Adventure. Well, I didn't decline his invitation; it's been a millenium since the last time I saw them!
Although I haven't been to Outland Adventure, I wasn't expecting something extraordinary about it. I thought it would just be an ordinary get-together activity with them.
I arrived at Outland around 8:30 AM, met up with them, did a few kamustahan stuff and immediately tried the 'Angry Bird attraction'. I am not good in explaining things basta you'll get tied up with a safety harness and a machine will wind the rope or string to a certain threshold. After that, they'll release it causing you to shoot up at least 20-30 feet in a matter of nanoseconds.
Tried to roll midair... but lol I failed |
"WAAAAAAAA" said he. LOL |
What a great way to release all those accumulated stress inside me! The most sulit 50 pesos ever! But the fun doesn't stop there. After assembling, we were divided into two groups and instructed to wear our respective blindfolds. And off we went to the first obstacle course.
Like any other team building activities, some tasks require you to push to your physical and mental limits. It challenges you on how to become an effective member of the team and how to strategically overcome a particular obstacle.
Water break daw. |
Adventure kung adventure! |
This is my favorite obstacle: The Wall (and no, not the icy monolith of the Game Of Thrones series). The task is simple. EVERYONE has to climb the 12-foot wooden wall without the aid of rope or any climbing thingamajig. Again, it's all about strategy and I am proud to say that we ALL managed to climb the wall, regardless of the weight... and height! :P Talking about being vertically and horizontally challenged!
And we finally applied what we have learned in our cheerdance competitions!!! |
Class picture! |
After eating lunch, we went back to our rendezvous point in preparation for the second part of the activity... and this time, it gets harder and more physically demanding. Who would've thought that we'll be crossing platforms, ropes and wires suspended 20-30ft above the ground? We certainly did not expect that.
But despite the challenges, we all managed to finish the obstacle courses. At first, the obstacles looked easy to finish... it was the other way around! When I was already there, it was harder (and scarier) than I thought!!! I ain't afraid of heights but it came to a point that my knees started to shake while attempting to jump from a shaky platform to an even shakier platform!!!
Briefing! |
My batch mate/bloc mate, Anj! |
Smile though your knees are shaking... |
But, all is well.
We were all tired but happy after the team building activity. And yes, it culminated with a prayer... and a free SHOWER!
One thing that I've learned from this activity is that perseverance is the key to success. I know this is an overrated quote but still stands out to every aspects of life. It was a good thing that I went home this week. I really enjoyed the activity together with my college friends! Great way to catch up with them!
