Day 1 of DFAT 2016

I will never regret joining food tours, especially DFAT (Davao Food Appreciation Tour). Aside from the fact that I don't get fat easily even if I eat a lot (LOL #blessed #bitokon), Davao's food scene has a LOT to offer. More so, this is the newly elected President's crib! Through the years, Davao's gastronomic avenue has grown so much that four days of oinkfest wasn't enough to cover the entire city. Let's take a look on what really happened during the first day of DFAT 2016.

Mam Bebs Bakery

Mam Bebs Bakery is one of Davao's oldest bakeshops. We tried their signature potato rolls, palabok, mango squares a la mode, custard cakes, and apple pie (which is by the way the BEST apple pie I've ever tasted in town). When in Davao, be sure to drop by Mam Bebz located at CM Recto Avenue, near Ateneo de Davao University and in front of Vivaldi Residences (under construction as of June 2016).

Best tasting Apple Pie!

Malagos Farm House

Next stop was the cheese and chocolate tasting at Malagos Farm House. Ms. Puentespina, one of the owners of this shop, is the cheese maker of Malagos. We sampled some of their cheeses which were made from goat's milk and their award-winning chocolate. Their Malagos 65% Dark Chocolate won Silver in the World Drinking Chocolate Competition in Hannover, Germany. In April of that same year, their Malagos Premium 100% Unsweetened Chocolate also won the Bronze Award for Best Unflavored Drinking Chocolate at the 2015 Academy of Chocolate Awards in London. That's something that the Filipinos, especially the Davaoeños should be proud of.

Ms. Puentespina also told us that the cheese and chocolate 'session' costs Php 1800, for a minimum of six (6) persons. That's like Php 300 per person! That same kind of experience costs more than Php 1800 per person if you're in Manila! We're talking premium goat cheese and chocolates, not just some cheap cheddar cheese and swiss miss that can be bought from a nearby grocery store! Furthermore, she aims to promote the local cheese and chocolate industry in Davao. Truly, it's one of the experiences that we'll never forget.

Spontaneous Trip around Asia

Nope, it's not what you think. For dinner, we went to Asian Side Wok located along Circumferential Road. We tried some of Asia's famous dishes - Tom Yum, Thai Seafood Laksa, Sweet and Sour Pork, Spring Rolls, Beef Rendang, Pad Thai, Hainanese Chicken, and many more. On top of that, they do not use MSG. Their kitchen uses only the freshest ingredients and the utmost care in preparing your meals. Thus, the flavors come out naturally (haha). But seriously, Asian Side Wok is a one-stop shop for all of your Asian cravings. No need to travel all the way to Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand just to sample their dishes. Personal favorite: Thai Laksa and Hainanese Chicken. Yum!

Asian invasion!

Thai Laksa! Finished one bowl with so much gusto.

Such a gastronomic feast!

And to cap off the night, we went to Perch and partied hard on a Friday Night (please do click the link for teh lulz). Thanks Perch for the amazing music and Rum Colas (Bacardi). Angkol was really thirsty for alcoholic drinks. Lol.

Thanks @thelibotero for this photo!

The first day of oinkfest was really memorable. Stay tuned as we explore more of Davao's food scene.
