How to Keep Fit on Your Long-Stay Holiday

A long-stay holiday is something that so many people look forward to. Rather than having just a week or two away from where you try to rush all your relaxing, sightseeing, and exploding into a small timeframe, a long-stay holiday really allows you to settle in and get to know the culture and the destination. With that said, it can be an awfully long time away from your regular routine when it comes to personal fitness.

You may not have workout facilities available to you while you’re away, and there’s a good chance you’ll be eating more food, and richer food at that, while on holiday. So, what can you do to keep fit on your long-stay holiday ensuring that you come back in the best of health? Here are some tips you can use.

Invest in a Good Quality Fitness Tracker

A fitness tracker or monitor can be your absolute best tool when it comes to staying fit. These can also be referred to as smart watches since they are able to do so much. You can find models that track your heart rates, such as the models discussed on the Best Seekers website, ones that track your steps, the distance you have walked, the calories you have burned and your sleep habits. Some can even provide you with email/text notifications and also act as your watch.

Typically, these fitness trackers can be paired with an app that you download on your smart device which can provide you with even more tools and features.

Walk Whenever Possible

If your long-stay apartment or hotel room is located near local conveniences, then get into the habit of walking whenever possible. You’ll be burning calories each time you head out, plus you won’t have to worry about fuel expenses. As an extra tip, make sure you pack comfortable walking or athletic shoes that offer appropriate support and cushioning.

Some places also feature bike rentals, which is another way you can get around in a healthy manner.

Bring Exercise Gear with You

Sure it’s not possible to pack up your treadmill or elliptical machine, but things such as resistance bands take up little to no room in your suitcase and can allow you to do a workout in your room. Look up various exercises you can do with the straps before you leave and create a routine for yourself that you can follow. Often just 15 minutes a day is all you’ll need.

Go Easy on the Sweets and Alcoholic Beverages

Obviously, the idea of calorie counting while on holidays isn’t very appealing, but it doesn’t hurt to show a bit of restraint. Try to go easy on the sweets and alcoholic beverages, both of which are high in calories, and make sure you fill up on lean proteins and vegetables instead.

Relax While Staying Fit

Even though it doesn’t seem like you can relax on holidays while staying fit, often it’s a matter of being creative about your activities and making sure that you get that heart rate going whenever possible.
