Random Shots: Plaridel Airport

Plaridel Airport

Upon learning that I'm going to be permanently assigned in Tacloban Tower/Approach Control facility, I together with my five other classmates who were also assigned to different provinces of the Philippines such as Kalibo, Busuanga, Subic, and Tuguegarao, will temporarily stay in Plaridel Tower. We still have to wait for our travel orders and some important documents before leaving Manila.

It was also an opportunity for me and my favorite toy (ehem, Canon EOS 1100D, we meet again!) to bond here in Plaridel. I have almost abandoned it during my training last year and my parents seldom used it.

Well, it feels so great to be reunited again with my favorite toy in the world!

Plaridel Airport is approximately 50km northwest of Metro Manila, serving the general area of Plaridel in the province of Bulacan. It is the only airport in the Mega Manila area solely dedicated to general aviation and one of the few airports in its designation that has taxiways that extend onto the ends of a runway. Today, the airport is still used extensively as a training ground for all types of pilots, whether civil, commercial or military. Several aviation schools are found within the immediate vicinity of the airport. In addition, the airport is a popular landing site for amateur pilots and aviation enthusiasts.

Operation hours in Plaridel Airport is from 7AM to 5PM. People are free to roam around the airport beyond 5PM. Most of them are airport employees. The airport terminal, as well as the control tower, faces the west, offering a breathtaking view of the sunset. Almost everyday, I get the chance to see a beautiful sunset and I always take pictures of it. I can't afford to miss every single of it! Chasing sunsets is one of my favorite hobbies.

Here are some of the photos I took a while ago, using my Canon EOS 1100D.

This is Plaridel Tower, now signing off, at time 0900 Zulu.

Did I mention that the airport is also a perfect venue for photo shoots?

I made a promise to myself that I should take MORE pictures this year! I hope this is going to be a good start.

You can view the whole album/set here. Enjoy!
