San Juanico Cruise Tour

Every time I pass the San Juanico Bridge, I couldn't help myself but to appreciate its grand structure. According to what I had learned from my Sibika at Kultura lessons back in grade school, this bridge is said to be the longest in the country which connects the islands of Samar and Leyte. Not only that, the San Juanico Strait, the body of water that passes underneath this bridge, is the narrowest strait in the whole world. We're talking two superlatives here in one region alone!

Days ago, I got an invitation for the San Juanico Sunset Cruise. Don't get too excited though because it's still on its dry-run phase, but allow me to share my experience about this promising project that I'm sure everyone in the Eastern Visayas region would look forward to experience it in the near future.

This cruise is a joint venture of the local government, the business sectors, and the local tourism board. We left the Port of Tacloban at around four in the afternoon. The weather was overcast the entire day and I was fervently praying to all gods and goddesses to at least give us a great sunset in our tour.

We passed by a nearby island with fish pens built by the local fishermen, through the help of various non-government organizations.

Seeing the San Juanico Bridge from a different perspective was really overwhelming. You know, I'm a sucker for big structures, so this cruise was kind of a big deal for me. Haha! It felt surreal and majestic at the same time while sailing beneath this landmark. Our local guide told us that this tour will start its operations summer next year! Thanks Tita Ludette and Tito Gerry of Leyte Gulf Travel and Tours for the invite! :)

Here are some of the photos I took during the dry run.

  11. Helicopters can't land inside the Canyon at the South Rim, however you can add a transport tour or Jeep tour to your bundle assuming you need to have a ground insight there.
