Once you decide to take a road trip, your head will be spinning about where to go. The easy bit is taking the leap to embark upon new adventures with friends, bonding over shared experiences and seeing the best sights in the world.

However, the hard bit is knowing which of the world’s most enticing routes to settle on. Firstly, however, get your license and insurance sorted as well as researching legal advice - you’ll need guidance from the likes of this company if anything goes wrong.

But, all being well, you will return back home safely with great memories and incredible photos. So, check out some of the most popular and famous road trip routes below:

Bolivia

Bolivia offers some of the most rewarding scenery you could ever dream of for a road trip. With 40% of the world’s animal and plant life found here, it is rich in biodiversity. It is also home to the world’s largest salt flat, the Salar de Uyuni, which offers stunning reflections of the mountains.

Meanwhile, for those who enjoy living on the more dangerous side of life, you will undoubtedly enjoy the thrill of driving on the famous Death Road. Barely a lane separates skydivers from passing cars up in the Bolivian highlands, which is taking the standard road trip to another level if that’s your thing.

Romania

The Transfagarasan Road is a twisting, eerie route with long, dark tunnels that is a must for any fans of Dracula or spooky scenery. Don’t forget to stop at the famous Poenari Castle, once home to Vlad the Impaler, who was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

New Zealand

Milford Sound offers a route through to Fiordland National Park, which is exactly the type of majestic scenery that New Zealand is famous for. Taking in some of the Southern Alps, you will be blessed with the views of the South Island.

Enjoy the mirrored waters and snow-capped waters, which are home to a variety of wildlife. And be sure not to miss the Avenue of the Disappearing Mountain, for one of nature’s tricks which makes the peak appear to shrink as you get closer in a clever optical illusion.

Canada

There couldn’t be a better road trip than that of the Canadian Rockies, perfectly located between picture-perfect Banff and Jasper. Some of the most wonderful wildlife nature has to offer is at every stop here, from black bears to moose and bald eagles. So, take your time along the route and be poised with your camera for plenty of spectacular nature photos.

Oregon

One route that is definitely not to be missed is the Historic Columbia River Highway in Oregan. It was the first planned scenic roadway in the US and it is easy to see why, with breathtaking waterfalls, beautiful mountain scenery and the USA’s second-longest river to be enjoyed. It is only a short route in comparison to some, however, it is one that is rich insights and experiences.
