Surreal Sunset in Manila

Manila Sunset

For those who have followed this blog for quite some time, you might notice that I always post sunset photos whenever I'm on a trip - be in Nueva Ecija or Boracay Island. Yesterday, I got a chance to witness a beautiful sunset, and this time in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

Despite the supersonic and the uber expensive lifestyle in the nation's capital, Manila offers a spectacular and unobstructed view of the western horizon (unless you're around Makati CBD, Ortigas, or Global City where skyscrapers cover almost every corner of the streets). Yesterday, my friends and I went to our classmate's condo at Raya Garden in Parañaque. The unit's balcony faces the western part of the metro and made me very excited (swear to Papa G). It was already 5PM yet I can still feel the sun's warmth radiating to my skin. I wholeheartedly embraced it because it was really beautiful. We didn't have this kind of view in Davao because Mount Apo and Mount Talomo are both located at the west side of the city. Boohuhu. :,(

I waited for like more than thirty minutes before the sun was completely down. City lights started to flicker and the sky grew darker as minutes went by.

There's this odd feeling whenever I watch the sun slowly sinking beneath the western horizon. It seemed that the world is an odd but a beautiful place to live.  I feel a connection to the grand, elusive scheme intertwining to all of humankind, and I am struck by something undefined. Even though I can't define that thing, it still compels me to do better with my life than what I have done so far.

PS: All photos were taken by my Sony Xperia U phone.
One of the most satisfying experiences I know is fully to appreciate an individual in the same way I appreciate a sunset. When I look at a sunset...I don't find myself saying, 'Soften the orange a litle more on the right hand corner, and put a bit more purple along the base, and use a little more pink in the cloud color...' I don't try to control a sunset. I watch it with awe as it unfolds. - Carl R. Rogers

  1. we share the same sentiments. there's a profound feeling sunsets always give me. this is exactly why i love boracay so much; i would come back as often as i can if only for the sunsets :)
