Seven Facts About Me When Traveling

I travel because I want to see and feel the world. It makes me feel alive in every possible way! In this day and age, people have easy access to social media, thus making our world smaller and more accessible. Also, more and more people can now afford flying to different places, all thanks to the cheap fares provided by low-cost carriers. I started traveling around the beautiful island of Mindanao during my college days and it had really opened my mind to a new perspective about how I see the world; a paradigm shift.

On a lighter note, some of you here wonder how I travel - the things that I usually carry and the preparations I do prior my trips. I guess it's about time to share seven fun facts about me when traveling.

FEATURED: #Wanderer Series

Hey guys! How's summer treating you? Well, I have been busy for a while. You know, I need to prepare my mind for the upcoming exams for my Aerodrome rating here in Tacloban Control Tower/Approach Facility and I'm feeling excited and nervous at the same time!

In the mean time, I got featured in an international travel blog! Haha! Surprise, surprise! Neeko has been a good blogger friend of mine for quite some time and it was so nice to him to have me featured on his #WANDERE Series. The #WANDERER project collects travellers’ perspectives from around the world. With his permission (thanks mate!), here's the complete post.

The Traveling Jumper (dot) Com... Or So I Thought!

Once upon a time, an adventurous lad made a promise to create a signature jump shot whenever he travels to new places. It all started with just one jump shot, and then followed by another photo... and the rest is history.

It's The Final Countdown!

The Original Approachables

A lot of things had happened in the past few weeks, and this post is just an update about my not-so-awesome life outside my comfort zone. Heh!

For The Love Of Instagram (and other photo apps)

Follow me: @rmbulseco

It has been a year since I downloaded Instagram on my iPod Touch (which now belongs to my brother). There's so much hype about this app even up to this date. The interface is very simple: take a photo of anything that fancies you, apply a desired filter, then voila! You now have a "vintage-y grungy-ey looking-ey" photo. No need to post process photos on photoshop! Even the most mundane thing on earth, say a trash bin or a silly photo of you could turn into an extraordinary one with the help of the available filters.

What A Journey It Has Been

Wow, I can't believe that my travel blog has turned one [year old] a few weeks ago! I did not even notice it due to my busy schedule (excuses, excuses LOL). Well, I am very grateful that in a span of a year, my travel blog had gained PR, traffic and of course, new friends.

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

You might be wondering why I don't have a TTN's birthday bash giveaway on my blog. Truth is, I have no plans to have one at all; I surmise that it's too early or due to lack of sponsors, so to speak. Maybe I'll give one in two or three years from now (ehem, calling all potential sponsors out there... kidding!).

Let us travel back in time as I tell you a story about the humble beginnings of my travel blog and how I managed to sustain it.

My Travel Wishlist

Since December has already begun a few days back, I'm going to join the bandwagon and create my own travel wishlist!

I won't be wishing simple things like "world peace" or "good vibes all over planet Earth" though because haler Hitler! If I am going to make a wish, it has to be big!

Ika nga, Dream Big, Kapamilya!

Confessions of an Aviation Geek

I am one of those people who dreams of flying and touring around the world. Despite the exorbitant tuition fee of flying school (yes, I’m talking millions here), it didn’t make me to stop dreaming about it.

Besides, when you dream, you have to dream BIG.

I always fancy airplanes, Boeing-made airplanes to be precise. My fascination started when I was little. My grandmother gave me a souvenir from Saudia Airlines, a 1:500 model scale of Saudia’s A330-300 plane.

Since then, I’ve started to appreciate those big birds, majestically flying in the sky.

Into the Wild

‘Sup guys! I am Renz Bulseco, 20-something years old from Davao City, Philippines. People call me Renz or sometimes Renzy. I finished my degree in Biology at the University of the Philippines Mindanao. Today, I work as an Air Traffic Controller in Tacloban City, Philippines (keeping the ground and sky safe is my duty) and dreams to travel around the world.

I started documenting my travel stories last June 2011 but I have been to various places in Mindanao and some parts of Luzon and Visayas for some time. As a Biology student, I was assigned to conduct field works at various locations. At one point, my group went to Iligan City, and the following week, we were tasked to conduct another field work at Camiguin Island. It had dawned on me that there are so many beautiful places in my own country in which some locals are not even aware about it.

Thus, the inception of this travel blog.

You might be wondering why I chose ‘thetravelingnomad’ as my blog’s URL. I know it sounds redundant but here are the reasons. A nomad is (1) a person who has no fixed home and move according to the seasons from place to place in search of food, water, and grazing land; and (2) a person with no fixed residence; a wanderer. Traveling on the other hand is defined as 'to go from one place to another, as on a trip; journey'. For me, traveling is NOT limited to transferring from one place to another. Whenever I travel, I see to it that I appreciate every bit of it. It is totally different whenever I’m not in my hometown, my comfort zone. Therefore, I want to create another definition for traveling – one who transfers to another place and experiences life beyond his comfort zone.

I am a nomad who moves from place to another and I travel because I want to experience life in different places; in different perspectives. Hence, thetravelingnomad.

And no, that's NOT a wedding ring.

Only a few people will understand why some of us invest a LOT in traveling and end up penniless after the trip. But you know at the end of the day, everything's worth it – the memories and the experiences during traveling. It is one of the best investments in life since you have the chance to choose your travel date. As for the price? It's flexible; you just have to scramble your way through promo fares and know how to carefully plan your itinerary ahead of time.

Before conquering Asia (and possibly, the world), I shall visit various provinces and islands of the Philippines to showcase how beautiful my country is. Huwag maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan (Don’t be a stranger in your country).

Have a happy and safe trip everyone!
